“Karen gathered the evidence,” I continued. “Our children will hear the truth from me tonight, not from you.”
Then I put the divorce papers over the file.
“You don’t have to sign them here,” I said. “But this marriage is over.”
David stared at me.
I left enough cash to pay for my half of the dinner, got up and left.
He had planned to turn that restaurant into proof of my mental instability.
Instead, it became the place where his whole plan collapsed.
But David was not ready to surrender.
Before I reached my car, he called our children claiming I had a severe emotional breakdown. He claimed I had become paranoid, I had accused him of theft and abandoned him in the middle of the dinner.
Fortunately, I had already sent a message to Emma and Ben asking them not to react until they saw my evidence.
Karen also submitted an emergency response opposing the request for guardianship and requested an independent medical evaluation.
The next morning, I completed a comprehensive neurological and psychological evaluation.
The results showed no cognitive decline.
Meanwhile, Marcus agreed to explain everything to the investigators.
David didn't hire him because he thought I was sick.
He had repeatedly instructed Marcus to draw up reports in support of that conclusion, even when Marcus insisted that I behave normally.
The financial motivation was also equally clear.
The manufacturer's new offer for the cabin was substantially higher than the figure David had indicated to me. The emails implied that he expected to receive a fee for private advice after completing the sale.
He wasn't just trying to take possession of my property.
He intended to make a personal profit, while convincing our children and friends to be protecting me.
PART 3: LIFE THAT COULD NO LONGER CONTROL
Once the guardianship case arrived in court, David’s impeccable image began to crack.
His lawyer claimed he had acted out of concern. They presented false notes on the notebook, photographs and statements about my alleged confusion.
Then Karen called Marcus.
He explained how David had recruited, paid for and pressed him to provide dishonest remarks.
“I told him he seemed to be fine,” Marcus testified. “He told me to find something wrong.”
