The Electricity Bill Told the Story
A few weeks later, my next electricity bill arrived.
It was dramatically lower.
That was satisfying—not because of the money, although saving money certainly mattered.
It was satisfying because the numbers confirmed what I had suspected.
Something had changed.
My household habits hadn't changed.
My appliances hadn't changed.
The unexplained increase had disappeared after Monica stopped using my electricity.
That was all the evidence I needed.
I never demanded that Monica reimburse me for every kilowatt-hour.
Honestly, I didn't want the hassle.
What I wanted was for her to understand that my home wasn't a public charging station.
