Anatomy
The heart began to hit me hard in the chest.
I braked so sharply that my bag fell from the passenger seat.
For several seconds I stood still behind the wheel, looking through the rain, unable to believe what I was seeing.
The wheelchair was not empty.
There was someone sitting on it.
I grabbed my phone, opened the car door and ran under the storm.
Occupational health and safety
“Ma'am!”
“Can you hear me?”
He didn't answer.
She was very old.
I was ninety-five years old.
His gray hair was soaked and glued to his face.
The clothes were completely wet.
Disabled and special needs
His body was leaning to the side as if he no longer had enough strength to stand upright.
Her lips were pale, almost blue, and her eyes were closed.
For a terrifying moment I thought she was dead.
I touched his wrist.
It was freezing.
“Please,” I whispered. “Please stay alive.”
Vehicle tyres and wheels
Then I leaned closer.
And I heard it.
I was breathing.
Very weakly.
Just.
As if his breathing was about to disappear.
I took off my jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders with my hands shaking.
Shipments and Logistics
She didn't move.
He didn't open his eyes.
He didn't even react.
She didn’t look like someone who had just fallen asleep.
It looked like someone they had forced to remain silent.
And that scared me more than anything else.
I called an ambulance while holding her to prevent her from slipping from the wheelchair and falling straight into the mud.
Sofas and armchairs
“There’s an elderly woman by the side of the road,” I shouted on the phone. “He is unconscious. It's freezing. She's sitting in a wheelchair. Please come quickly.”
The operator asked me where I was.
I looked around desperately.
But there was nothing.
Just rain.
Darkness.
My car.
Cars and vehicles
And that woman in the wheelchair.
I gave her my location the best I could.
“Are you breathing?” the operator asked.
“Yes,” I replied. “Just.”
“Stay with her. Help is already on the way.”
I kept talking to him because he was afraid that if he stopped leaving this world before the ambulance arrived.

“Please stay with me,” I whispered. “You are not alone anymore. Please resist.”
