A reunion at the doorstep, twenty years later.
Neither of them could have imagined that their paths would cross again. On a stormy night, Tyler opened the door waiting for the usual food delivery and instead found Charlotte, soaked in the rain, dressed in a delivery jacket. She didn't recognize the man she had become. He recognized her instantly.
Her brief conversation that night revealed enough — she mentioned that she was her brother’s only caregiver — so Tyler could sense that life had been cruel to her. Afterwards, he watched her from her window while her car had difficulty starting in the rain and she collapsed briefly before leaving.
Unable to forget the meeting, Tyler made another home order the following night, this time specifically requesting Charlotte and leaving a note asking her to return. When she returned, worried about whether she had bothered any clients, Tyler invited her in and showed her a living room full of photographs of her graduation night, kept by her Uncle Ray for twenty years.
The instant Tyler delivered his old nickname, Charlotte finally recognized him. Overwhelmed, she burst into tears and told her what her life had been like since high school: precarious jobs, her mother’s illness, and the dream she had never been able to develop. Tyler, in turn, revealed to her the truth she kept since the prom: she was the only person she had compared herself to.
