For several months, she had quietly worked in the same home, treating every room with the kind of care that went far beyond simply completing a list of chores. The note explained that the homeowner had deliberately hidden small coins around the house as a test. The purpose was apparently to determine whether she was cleaning carefully enough to notice them. She read the message more than once, struggling to understand how a working relationship that had seemed comfortable could suddenly become an examination. The coins themselves were not important.
